What is the PharmD Program?
The Bachelor of Pharmacy (PharmD) program is a degree program that grants a Bachelor's degree in Pharmacy under the credit hours system. It aims to graduate highly competent pharmacists in various fields of pharmaceutical sciences, in line with the requirements of the job market in hospitals, community pharmacies, and pharmaceutical companies.
1. Duration and Academic System
- Total Duration: Five academic years (five levels, divided into ten semesters) + one year of advanced training (internship year).
- System: Based on the credit hours system.
- Additional Year: The sixth year (internship year) in addition to a mandatory summer training.
2. Program Components
- Credit Hours: The program requires a total of 175 credit hours, in addition to university requirements (4 credit hours).
- Elective Courses: Students must successfully complete 8 credit hours of elective courses.
- Summer Training (Initial Field Training): Students must complete 100 training hours in community pharmacies, governmental pharmacies, and hospital pharmacies. This training takes place during the summer vacations after the completion of the third level and before the start of the internship year.
- Internship Year (Advanced Field Training): The sixth year of study (36 weeks) is a mandatory training period in various pharmacy practice settings.
3. Program Mission and Objectives
Mission: To graduate highly competent pharmacists capable of utilizing modern scientific tools in various pharmaceutical fields.
Objectives:
- To provide students with strong concepts in pharmaceutical sciences according to the needs of the job market.
- To foster teamwork and the ability to address complex health issues.
- To develop leadership skills and effective communication within multidisciplinary teams.
- To train students in delivering healthcare and preventive awareness.
- To encourage lifelong learning to keep pace with professional developments and serve community issues.
4. Language of Instruction
The language of instruction is English, although some courses may be taught in Arabic upon the approval of the competent authorities.
5. Program Outcomes
The program graduate is a scientifically and technically qualified pharmacist, possessing strong foundational concepts and high competence in the fields of pharmaceutical sciences and modern technology. The graduate is capable of working efficiently in hospitals, community pharmacies, and pharmaceutical companies, while demonstrating commitment to teamwork, effective communication skills, distinguished ethical and professional conduct, and contributing effectively to the improvement of the healthcare system.
