What is the Clinical Pharmacy Program?
It is a Bachelor of Pharmacy (PharmD) program specializing in Clinical Pharmacy, awarded according to the credit hours system. The degree qualifies graduates to obtain a license to practice the profession in all available pharmacy fields, as well as to enroll in postgraduate studies.
1. Duration and Academic System
- Total Duration: Five academic years (five levels, divided into ten semesters) + one year of advanced training (internship year).
- System: Based on the credit hours system.
- Additional Year: The sixth year (internship year) in addition to a mandatory summer training.
2. Program Components
- Credit Hours: The program requires a total of 175 credit hours, in addition to university requirements (4 credit hours).
- Elective Courses: Students must successfully complete 8 credit hours of elective courses.
- Summer Training (Initial Field Training): Students must complete 100 training hours in community pharmacies, governmental pharmacies, and hospital pharmacies. This training takes place during the summer vacations after the completion of the third level and before the start of the internship year.
- Internship Year (Advanced Field Training): This is the sixth year of study (36 weeks), divided into rotational training courses (at least 4 courses within hospitals that apply clinical pharmacy practice). The program includes comprehensive training under the supervision of the faculty and the training site, in addition to a graduation project in a specific specialization.
3. Program Mission and Objectives
The program aims to:
- Graduate distinguished pharmacists capable of providing appropriate healthcare to patients inside and outside the hospital.
- Focus on the pharmacist's role in monitoring patients' drug therapy, studying clinical pharmacokinetics, and reducing medication risks and interactions in collaboration with the medical team.
- Qualify graduates to work in various fields (community and hospital pharmacies, pharmaceutical companies, drug quality control laboratories, food analysis, marketing, scientific research, and academia).
- Enhance the competitiveness of graduates regionally through distinguished academic and training programs.
- Commit to quality standards in pharmaceutical education through interactive learning and self-learning.
4. Language of Instruction
The language of instruction is English, although some courses may be taught in Arabic upon the approval of the competent authorities.
5. Program Outcomes
Graduates of the program are qualified clinical pharmacists capable of acting as active members of the healthcare team, improving patient care and contributing to community service and environmental development.
